Doctoral programme in advanced materials
On completion of the taught programme, you’ll join a research mission aligned with key global challenges, working alongside fellow students and leading academics from both The University of Manchester and the University of Cambridge. This hands-on approach allows you to design projects, share ideas and develop essential leadership skills while contributing to groundbreaking discoveries.

Taught units and research
The 4-year PhD programme will begin with 6 months of taught units, before spending the remaining time in the CDT working on your chosen PhD project, alongside other CDT students involved in the same research mission and your academic supervisory team.
Year 1
Months 1 – 6 consists of taught units, followed by the start of your research project.
Years 2 – 4
This phase focuses on your PhD research project, with additional skill development opportunities in your final year.
